Seems like they could have done it in 2 minutes versus 10 ... been a LOT more effective AND have saved them a ton of work in the bargain.

Does anyone know if the creator of this has interfered with the pacing of the video here, particularly in the first few minutes? For some reason it feels like they have, but it's been so long since I watched 2001 I really can't tell.

It's good though, whether they have or they haven't. Just wish it was higher res.

Certainly the scene with the monolith (alignment with the moons) is significantly faster than it appeared on the screen in the film.
