You need to post more here. Please come back after you've seen that showing with anything new you picked up.
Thanks, that's very welcoming of you! This will probably be the 8th or 9th time I've seen it, but only the second time I've seen it in the theater.
There's a couple of pet ideas I've had recently, so I'll be watching to see how much evidence/lack of contradicting evidence there is:
- Is the "dream" actually a "life flashing before her eyes after shooting herself"?
The chronology of the last 1/3rd of the movie is so scrambled, why not put the "collapsing onto the pillow, which begins the dream" right after she shoots herself? (I guess this is pretty similar to the dying dream/afterlife theory, except with the emphasis on the dream rather than eschatology) - vague Lost Highway-esque mobius strip ideas ...where the dream instigates/intrudes on the real world that leads to the dream -- though I'm afraid my ideas aren't as labyrinthine as the Mobius Strip theory; I was mainly thinking of cataloging the intrusions into the apartment:
- can the telephone call that Betty and Rita make to Rita's(?) apartment be the unanswered call? (well, no, probably not).
- Can Betty and Rita be the "two detectives" that Diane's neighbor told her about? (After all, "there are those among us who try to figure out those secrets; shall we call them detectives?", (tm) the Log Lady)
- Can Betty and Rita's knock be the knock that drove Diane to suicide?
- That Adam = Aunt Rita idea
Edit: didn't get much on these points, but I noticed a lot of new (to me) minutia this time
