"Bondar" the Magician?

Postby blu » 17 Jan 2011

Over at IMDb Robert Green's character, who is listed as 'The Magician' in the credits for the actual film, is called Bondar in the full cast and credits.

Take a looksee: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0052092/

This is more than likely an error or user submission on IMDb that's unsubstantiated, because I've not seen any official literature or anything to do with the film where the name Bondar has been used. I was just wondering if anyone is aware of somethng that I'm not that might give a reason as to why IMDb has him listed as such.

Any idea?

Grateful for any infos.

Agreed. AFAIK, it's completely without merit other than it sounds a bit like a typical old-time magician's name. Bondar also reminds me of Zoltar, which is the name of the fortune/wish machine in the film Big (1988) or more specifically, "Zoltar Speaks"

What a coincidence - I was meaning to post the same thread shortly. Looks like my laziness won out 8-)

The question here is, how could such erroneous submittion get past the mod control? I just sent out a request to the "IMDb data managers", asking about the name change - let's see if they care to respond.

If the IMDb archive at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.imdb.com/ can be trusted, the Bondar entry was already there in July 2002. See http://web.archive.org/web/200210040648 ... ullcredits

So it may as well have been sitting there right from the start...

... btw, those were the day when MD ranked at 101 in the Top 250 list http://web.archive.org/web/200208130015 ... _250_films

Interestingly enough, (according to Wiki) Bondar is a popular Ukrainian surname that means "cooper" which is a person that makes barrels and such, creating an [unintentional?] reference to Twin Peaks. The English name Cooper also derives from the term for "barrel-maker."

I guess it must be like Al of Lost Highway says: "There's no such thing as a bad coincidence."
