Film Trailers - Forthcoming Films

The Illusionist (2010). The Illusionist is based on a screenplay by late great filmmaker Jacque Tati and turned into a 2D animation film by the filmmaker (Sylvain Chomet) who gave us the The Triplets of Belleville (2003). I will definitely see this film because I'm a huge Tati fan but I think this film is up against it. I just think that Tati's slow developing stories are for a bygone time. I don't see a modern audience who are used to 20 cuts per minute of film embracing it. Also, the story of an aging entertainer in an aging art form (magic) in an aging theatre format (vaudeville) is three strikes and you're out. I don't think the over 50 crowd really will go to see many animated films and children will be squirming in their seats after a couple of minutes so ... it's a tough sell. But a film need only have an initial audience of one to be loved and I'm hoping to love it. Still, I won't be waiting for week two to see this puppy as it may be exiting stage left quite soon.

That's a bold move for a movie title since we already have The Illusionist (2006).
Anyways, I am not sure if I am gonna like it, but this one's got some MD-related stuff going on (jitterbug dancing, lesbian) that might be worth checking out

Maybe slightly out of character with the other two trailers posted here so far, but I love my popcorn films as much as my arthouse and I am very excited about the prospect of Tron Legacy on the IMAX. In 3D. I've not been hugely impressed with 3D in general so far, but I love the IMAX format and I grew up with the original Tron, so that combined with 12,000 watts of Daft Punk assaulting my senses is something that I cannot miss and am genuinely excited about.
The 1080p trailers look so lush and although plot and character development is not likely to be the film's strongest suit, it feels like a bit of an event to me.
Here's the latest trailer:

True Grit - Teaser Trailer - Don't watch the full trailer as it is one of those poorly thought out trailers that gives away the whole darn plot.

It's too bad True Grit didn't get any Golden Globe nominations and films like The Tourist did.

I really like the look of this, but wonder if some of the urban/council estate London might get lost in translation across Europe and in the US

I read today that Woody has put at least one film out every year since 1976. That's an impressive workrate.

Latest from Von Trier. Has the critics wetting themselves. I'll wait and see personally.
