I love playing around with Google Street View, so to be a bit more productive with my time on it I'm going to explore some MD locations, provide some links, put some side by side images of Street View together with the film etc. Think of the thread as a virtual sightseeing tour of MD locations. Not really expecting much theoretical discussion in here. Just outright geekery.

Join me and explore some places if you like.

First up, I'm going to look at some places from Rita's walk.

3400 North Beechwood Drive/Sunset Ranch - The Cowboy

Street View stops about 100 yards short of the ranch. Bummer. Take a looksee.



However, this is a neat aerial view that I put together that shows how the ranch is just below the Hollywood sign.



And despite the fact that the google camera car never made it *quite* up to the ranch, there are a bunch of photos of the ranch on Picasa and whatnot that have been geotagged (if that's the right term), and show some pretty neat images. The first is my favourite, but the others are pretty cool too.

And you can go up there and ride horses around and do the touristy stuff by visiting the Sunset Ranch Website.

So far for my hypothetical trip to Hollywood I have:

1. Stay a night at the Saharan
2. Ride a horse at Sunset Ranch

Something tells me that I won't be stopping there.

i spent all day yesterday doing the google maps thing and finally found Joe's office.

here is Havenhurst. The street view doesn't provide a great view directly into the gate.

the one thing I found to be super cool is, if you look closely, you can see some birds of paradise flowers still there.
