Haven't seen L'appartement yet, can't find a version with english subtitles. But I've been working me way through the recommended movies list.
On Sunday I watched The Tenant. Does anyone actually understand this movie at all? Sorry but it made no sense to me, so much so that I don't even know what to ask really! I mean, why? Just, why? To everything.
Loved the mise-en-scene and performances. Made Paris look amazingly grotesque, which is quite a feat. I suppose it was the mid-seventies!

Am I right in thinking that you're in the UK?

I agree that The Tenant is an awkward film, but I very much enjoyed it for it's eerie tone. It's a strange film, and quite hilarious in a subtle way. I don't particularly understand it and I'm not certain it has enough substance.

Enjoyed this.
Unusually for a time travel film, it all felt pretty resolved for me in the end - no need to go picking through the bones of it to fully satisfy myself. I'm sure somewhere someone is picking some almight flaws, plot holes and time travel technicalities out of it, but I thought that it did what it set out to do.
One minor bone to pick was that it explained a little bit too much with the voiceover at times. Could have let me do a little bit more work myself, but decent film.

I was a little disappointed by Looper. Strong first act but the thrill factor drops considerably around the time the hero reaches the farm house.
Noticed a possible reference to the opening of Inglourious Basterds:

I don't think it was as good as a lot of critics made out, but if it acts as a "gateway" to other time travel films for people, that's a good thing.
This is entertaining. Quite clever in the way that it almost writes itself in some meta way as it goes on. Not quite working in the same territory as MD, but really enjoyable.

Enjoyed it very much, especially for its self-referentiality.

Well I had a confusing weekend. Persona on Friday and Primer on Sunday. First viewings of both!
Help!

Enjoyed both immensely BTW.
Particularly like the duration of Primer, 1'13" is much longer than most short films but not long enough to be feature length either. Quite refreshing after seeing the bloated Hobbit last week. Could be a whole new format: mid-length.

Both somewhat confusing but on different levels.
Persona - abstract, anti-intellectual, understood on an emotional level.
Primer - meticulously planned and executed, absolutely can be understood on an intellectual level, a mathematical puzzle to solve almost.
Really worlds apart in their construction. Both compelling.

Is that the sound of a gauntlet hitting the ground?
Ok, accepted...

Well. I'm not necessarily indicating that *I've* fully wrapped my head around it. But some people claim to have. I do think that unravelling Primer is like unravelling a really complicated equation.

Saw Django Unchained a couple of days ago.
I guess the older I get, the less I appreciate Tarantino, because I've been going off him for a while now. I liked it, but just not as much as most other people I've spoken to about it.
