Hotel Room

Postby kmkmiller » 22 Jul 2012

Just saw this on YouTube. The third part "blackout" with Alicia Witt and Crispin Glover is amazing, would love to see it as a stage play.

So is there a reason why HOTEL ROOM is not talked about so much compared to other Lynch works? Is it a secret? I mean on imdb they don't credit any of the actors except the bellboy. Almost like if in the world of DL, a world of secrets, there's a secret couple of short films no one never talks about, and I guess that would mean I'm breaking the rule by talking about it. ;-)

Or maybe HOTEL ROOM just isnt that good. The second episode directed by SNL alumn James Signorelli is very uneven, but after seeing "blackout", without getting into interprettibg the story itself, I am just amazed at David Lynch's ability to bring out the best in all performers he works with.

It's just how IMDB handles things. They typically show cast listings only for those involved in multiple episodes. The rest of the cast are listed individually under the specific episodes.

The reason that Hotel Room is not discussed as much as other "Lynch works" seems pretty straight-forward ... it's a failed TV show with only three episodes.

Oh, I see what you mean about IMDB.

Even if it's considered not a good work, it's Lynch and can be used to illuminate Lynch's other movies. It does support the afterlife/waiting room theories of Mulholland Drive. In "Blackout" the lights come on at the end and they smile.

I thought 'Blackout' was fantastic! I really think it would work as a stage play. It really forces the viewer to stop searching a frame for visual clues and focus on the actors and the story they're telling themselves about themselves. Reminded me of some of Beckett's short plays. Lynch minimalism is not a bad thing at all from my point of view.
