Re: INLAND EMPIRE -- I'M TAKING IT ON

There's some amazingly vicious debate about it online.

Two schools:

1. It's all a dream, being dreamed by an unseen protagonist
2. It's all real, and supernatural

Good luck!

The site has kind of grown organically over time. I mentioned back in the Twin Peaks Podcast review thread that it was pieced together by lots of the old posters on RT because we were concerned about losing the ideas, discoveries and discussions posted over there. Essentially our content/source material already existed. Some stuff has been tweaked and chopped and rewritten but only on a very basic level. It's a collaborative democratic co-operative approach. Hopefully it's balanced in that it shows a variety of thoughts that encourage people enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole.

Could someone do the same for IE? Certainly not us, I don't think. Personally I struggle with the film. Not in an intellectual sense, necessarily. I think really I struggle to like or enjoy it, so whilst MD is something of a labour of love for me. IE would just be a labour.

Does the content exist to build a website?

I don't know the answer to that question. I've enjoyed reading a few bits and pieces written about the film, but certainly there doesn't seem to be an equivalent of the RT MD forum from years gone by. I know there are some places that host active discussion, but IMDb - for example - has probably lost 1000s upon 1000s of posts because of their pruning policy.

If there was a core of people who wanted to shift their discussions here we'd be happy to open a new sub-forum and host it, but one dementedly obsessive Lynch website is enough for me.

;-)

And if anyone likes where I'm going with it, please do venture on over to my blog periodically over the next few weeks as I work through the movie. As it will take several entries, it would be pushing the bounds of good manners to post here a link to my blog with every new post. Although I'm sure I'll let people know once more when I'm finished.

I'm a big INLAND EMPIRE obsessive, so I will be following your blog. It'll be interesting to see what you make of it.
Just forget you ever saw it. It's better that way.

taking a lot longer than it should. few reasons. digestion is one. ignorance on my part is another (as I've mentioned several times, there's no inland-empire.net website with studies and locations :hmm:   =( :wall: no research shortcuts.)

lastly the movie is almost more simple and i find myself repeating myself from scene to scene.

Will keep plugging away though. the name nikki grace is a contradiction, and could write two paragraphs on her name itself.

thanks for the encouragement though.
