An interesting statement

Postby Krakum » 25 Oct 2011

As I mentioned in another thread, I read through a bunch of David Lynch interviews. In one of these I found the following thing:

"'When Mulholland Dr. came out, no one understood it,' says Lynch[...]'Now, everyone understands that one but they don't understand this one[Inland Empire]."'

*Everyone* understands it now...? That is an interesting statement... I think this could only mean that the theory about Mulholland Drive that most people have(the standard theory: first part dream, second part real), is the right one according to Lynch.

Here is the interview that I quoted from: http://www.pastemagazine.com/action/art ... _of_coffee

Perhaps he means everyone FEELS they understand it? Still, nice to think the man himself has rubberstamped our theory. There's no doubt in mymind that we understand it better than ten years ago!

It also suggest he's optimistic that we could come to understand Inland Empire... phew!

i posted a theory on inland empire in the other section of this forum. not saying it has to be correct, but with it, the movie suddenly makes a lot more sense.
(the theory is that it all happens merely inside the imagination of the "women in trouble").

I'd be interested in knowing the date of the interview. I don't see it anywhere on the page.

@fonebone: my guess would be that it was made around the time inland empire came out, so probably somewhen in 2006 or 2007.
