There seem to be various references to and echoes of Sunset Boulevard in Mulholland Drive. Purely in visual terms the very final shot of SB (a distorted image of Gloria Swanson) finds its continuation in the whitish images of Betty and the elderly couple superimposed on the jitterbug sequences.

Dang, I've never seen Sunset Boulevard. I don't think I'll be able to figure this one out. And the only things I see that are close to a 19 are the 119 and the 911 at the accident. Oh, and the 1X63 on Betty's cab (1X[6+3]).

Could this '19' be an age? Along the lines of what you're thinking is going on in the film, what if everyone in this underground sex thing was supposed to be 18 or over. But someone wasn't. She was under 18. But she fooled everyone into thinking she was (because she's a great actress). She was 'discovered'. Then she became a 'star'. Everyone wanted to be with her, then. Sick, I know.

That's all I can think of, the clubhouse being the '19th hole'. Lol! And 69 and 80 being golf scores.

I understand how you see what you see. :) I will pose this. I am starting to wonder if someone really did drown in the pool (the pool we assume is Adam's). And I'm wondering if everyone present came together to 'cook' up a story on how this happened and how this 'dead kid' came to be there. They want it to look like an accident or a suicide (like Joe makes Ed's death look like a suicide) and they're gonna pretend they don't know this 'kid'. They're gonna claim, if questioned, that this kid must have snuck up the hill, in the back, to the pool.

But I'm not quite sure someone drowned. The reason behind it? We see blue curtains turned red at Club Silencio. Blood spilling into the 'blue' pool would turn it red.

Luigi spitting out his espresso looks a like someone who has blood spilling from their mouth. Like Laura Dern in Inland Empire.

Of course, one could actually drown before they die of a mortal wound.

Are you familiar with the story of Traci Lords?

I don't necessarily think it's MD-related, but is definitely related to the story that you're talking about there. Quite infamous in the Valley, I would suggest.

I'd heard Traci Lords' name but never knew her story. Interesting.
