Recommended Reading - help required

Postby blu » 29 Nov 2010

As mentioned in bunter's 'Review' thread here, a sticky in the forum with some links and pointers for people surfing in might be helpful. So on that basis I'd be interested in people's ideas for what might be frequently asked questions, and any brief content or links that might provide some reading to introduce people to the world of MD.

What have posters here found particularly helpful? Both on the main LoMD site and elsewhere?

What do you think are FAQs that might be good to provide content on?

Where did you start reading?

Are there any good links that you haven't seen mentioned on the main site?

Will sticky this and leave up for a while before sifting through into some kind of order to produce something a bit more organised. Grateful for help from you guys.

For example, we have the "Classical Interpretation" highlighted on the main page:

http://www.mulholland-drive.net/studies/classical.htm

But we might want to give people options for more in-depth analysis such as bunter's post if we can find a home for that on the site, or the salon.com article that a lot of people find their way to early on, plus whatever else.

FAQs might be: "Who the hell is the Cowboy?", or "WTF is the blue box?"

etc etc etc

Hm.

If there's no interest in this then I'll unpin it and it can naturally sink unless posted to and bumped. That's cool. ;-)

Sorry to be so slow responding to this thread.

I don't think that my thread on dominate colors within MD made it to the website nor (AFAIK) available on the RT site.

Sorry to self-promote my own stuff but I think it should be added to the studies area.

Well, it's been sitting here all along http://mulholland-drive.net/studies/symbols.htm (link under "colors")

But I prefer the new colorful version ;-)

That's some great work on the colour coding in the film.

When I was first looking for info on the film a few years back I found this review very helpful http://www.themodernword.com/mulholland_drive.html

In particular I liked the pages of readers comments. It's not something that is focused on any particular area of study but a good place to begin with an overview of the film and some individual theories.

I also found Rotten Tomatoes forum very helpful and I don't quite understand what has happened to that forum now? It seems to be dead but the old threads are still available for linking, like on the main http://www.mulholland-drive.net pages?

Other general info sites that I found helpful early on were at Dugpa, Lynchnet, Salon and Roger Ebert

My (limited) understanding is that RT did away with the MD sub-forum and dumped the content into the General Discussion category.
